Job Description

G. Ray Bodley High School is looking for a highly motivated and passionate Biology Teacher to join our science department. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering engaging and rigorous biology instruction to high school students, fostering a deep understanding of biological concepts, and inspiring a love for scientific inquiry. This role involves planning and implementing effective lesson plans, assessing student progress, collaborating with colleagues, and contributing to the overall school community.

Salary

The starting salary for this position is $63,746. In addition, we offer:

  • A Master's Degree Stipend of $2,598.

  • $145 per graduate credit towards a Master's Degree (beyond the initial degree).

  • $500 per year of certified experience.

Responsibilities

  • Teach various levels of high school biology courses, which may include Regents Biology, Advanced Placement (AP) Biology, and/or other elective science courses as needed.

  • Develop and implement engaging, standards-aligned lesson plans that cater to diverse learning styles and promote critical thinking and scientific literacy.

  • Utilize a variety of instructional strategies, including laboratory investigations, hands-on activities, technology integration, and differentiated instruction.

  • Assess student learning regularly through formative and summative assessments, provide timely and constructive feedback, and maintain accurate records of student progress.

  • Create a positive, inclusive, and challenging classroom environment that encourages student participation, collaboration, and a passion for science.

  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues in the science department and across the school to develop curriculum, share best practices, and support student success.

  • Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress and academic concerns.

  • Supervise students in various school settings and enforce school rules and policies.

  • Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in science education.

  • Contribute to the broader school community through participation in extracurricular activities, committees, and school events.

Qualifications

  • New York State Teaching Certification in Biology 7-12 (or ability to obtain prior to start date).

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Biology, Science Education, or a related field.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of current biology curriculum and pedagogical best practices.

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.

  • Commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment.

  • Experience teaching high school biology is preferred, but highly qualified new teachers are encouraged to apply.
